Use kb-dev.cf7skins.com for most initial documentation work

Last Updated on October 21, 2018 by Neil Murray

I think we should avoid using cf7skins-test.project.buzztoned.com for initially creating blog posts. Rather we should just use kb-dev.cf7skins.com as we do for most other changes to pages, posts & faq.

I originally did this so we were using the same theme as the live blog. I’ve found we can easily make any necessary changes when we schedule the post on the live site.

All blog posts eventually also get published on kb.cf7skins.com so they need to look OK on both the themes we currently use.

Update

  • we no longer use cf7skins-test.project.buzztoned.com at all
  • we use blog.cf7skins.com & blog-dev.cf7skins.com when creating new blog posts
  • blog posts no longer get published on kb.cf7skins.com

  1. I am completely agree if they have the same theme. We can directly see what it looks like using the theme after creating/editing blog posts.

    • kb.cf7skins.com (where post is added to the Knowledge Base) & cf7skins.com (where post is added to the blog) currently have different themes, but I’ve found this is not significant.

We can easily make any changes needed, because of the different theme, when we schedule the post on the live site.

  2. +1! It would be much easier to keep all of the draft, in progress, and awaiting approval content in one place. The fewer WP sites we need to check, change, and update, the better.

Any differences in the theme between blogs, documentations, and FAQs should not matter that much if we are consistent in checking our work before publishing live.

As a rule of thumb before publishing, I always:
    a) Save the post as a draft.
    b) View what a live version of the draft would be (the eye icon in the editor)
    c) Make any adjustments
    d) Publish
    e) View the post live to make sure it all still looks correct.

So, yes, all content under kb-dev.cf7skins.com would be great :)

  3. I agree as well. Like Katie said, it’s much more convenient if we have to track only a couple of sites for some work. Also, the difference in theme should not be that big of an issue.
